What is wrong with this town BC football use to be the biggest thing in this town know we can barely get people to come to the games it seems to me like they are not even trying to get in touch with the people of this town. If you recruited more home town players more people would come to see the games. The players need to get out there and try to get people to go to the games by getting in touch with the community. Then i think we will be able to bring BC back to it's championship statcher.

Take it from someone who's been involved with the BC program for 30 years. You can have all local players, but if you're not winning, they will not come.
BC uses 80 percent area players right now, but has to look elsewhere for the skill players and defensive linemen. All of the premier players in those catergories go to 4 year schools from here.
As long as UCLA and USC are playing on FoxSnet at BC game time, people will stay home. The main problem is all the new development in this town is in the SW and that's where the population is now too. If the stadium and school were out there, it would be a different story.
Chudy can do it. If he can bring fast break football to Bakersfield, the fans will come back. Maybe 5000 on a regular basis, which will keep the dream alive.
But we've still got to go get the George Jones', the Randy Jordans, and the other skill players to supplement the local talent.
You need to get someone like Cornell Jordan back on the BC team, he was "The Man" back in the day, laying people OUT. He was in the newspaper all the time. If you can find another Cornell Jordan you're set. But I know theres no "I" in team.. so..
Hey he has a son, plays football at a private christian school in Bakersfield, Valley High I think...

tv back then had fewer than 100 channels
No Condors
Prime Ticket had LA Kings games. (Now FSN has USC/UCLA)
Let's face it, more to do now.
After last game I think more people will come to games. Nobody wants to see HB off tackle 10 times a game against a 9 man defensive line.
I do love the running game though. George Jones was DA MAN! If only Matthews would get his head on straight, he could be that way. (from what I hear). Kid has the talent and strenght. No doubt.
How about bringing back halftime giveaways on the field. Draw fans to kick a FG for a car, or $$$. 3 kicks. FG from 10 gets 10$ (you can kick from there 3 times if you like for $30) Or try from the 30 for $30. You get the pic. I liked the tossing into the trash cans myself.
And how about a hat or shirt giveaway. Maybe a jersey raffle. Get jerseys from players past like Jones, Cercone, David Dunn, Mayo. $2 a ticket or 3 for $5. Jerseys are like what, 40 dollars to produce. You would get the fans interested and make a little money to buy some new cheerleader speakers...lol... And cut the vulgar dance music we heard last year. A player wanted a song played during the game to get motivated. If you need music to get motivated while playing big time JC football, ugh, being on the field should be motivation enough. GO GADES

BC Football is coming back up thanks to Jeff Chudy and his discipline-first approach. It takes time to build a quality program and make this transition. I have worked with BC Football the last couple of years and been very impressed with what they are doing with these young men. They are building more than football--they are building character and class--not BS. Success will come and be well deserved. Don't count BC out--they are on the way up and worth watching in person. Ron Jones
Take it from me, BC still has the largest fan base, when they are winning.
Take Grossmont for instance. They are the 2005 State Champs and they play in a stadium that holds about 500 people, and it's only full if they play a team like Canyons.
Like Marcus and others suggest, there is a lot more to do now then back in the day. As for out of town recruiting, you HAVE to do it to be competitive. Bakersfield has a great base of High School kids, but it's not enough when the Blue Chippers are going elsewhere. A team like Reedley College will have over 50 out of state players, and it makes them a powerhouse.
There is talk of a 3 tiered divisional system in which teams are rated by power. Bakersfield would be in the top Division which will make it even harder for them to compete with Canyons, Grossmont, and the Mission powers. But Coach Chudy is the guy that will keep them competitive.
Cornell Jordan!!! A man amongst boyz. I still remember his Butkus like bear hug tackles. He went on to San Jose State but a spinal injury cut his career short. That was one of the best seasons for Bakersfield High School football. Foothill, led by Jim Wooster, whipped Anaheim who was the #1 rated school in California. East beat Foothill, and South beat East leading to a three way tie. Along with Jordan, East had Mike Mangrum, at one time UOPs leading rusher, and he played Linebacker for East! They also had Ted Roberson who went on to start at Safety for USC, Russell Grimes who was an all conference receiver at CAl Poly, and Jerry Buckner the city rushing leader. They also had John Nichols, a 21 second 220 trackster who went on to play for the University of California and didn't even start for East! I still remember John, at 5'11, could stand straight uner the basket, and reverse two hand dunk.
Now here's the shameless self promotion....
