The winning team gets the Vince Lombardi Trophy, named for the coach of the Green Bay Packers, who won the first two Super Bowl games. Following his death in September 1970, the trophy was first awarded at Super Bowl V in Miami. In the first Super Bowl that took place on January 15, 1967, between the NFL’s Green Bay Packers and the AFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, the game was not as enthusiastically as it is today. The NFL fever did not catch the fancy of the fans even though the Packers won that game, by 35-10. But three years later when Joe Namath assured the victory for the AFL’s second best New York Jets in Super Bowl III and then defeated Baltimore Colts with a 16-7 win over the Baltimore Colts, that is when game proved to be a milestone in the Super Bowl history since it rose the interest of the fans in the sport. Since then the Super Bowl has became the biggest event in American sport.
